It's Wild and Wonderful WV Fun in Welch on June 9-10!
Join us for the 3rd annual WV Coalfields Cookoff - the West Virginia State BBQ & ATV Festival, this KCBS State Championship Cookoff, hosted by the City of Welch, promises great food, bands, a beer garden, ATV activities and vendors.
BBQ Cook Teams will compete for almost $13,000 in prize money and the WV State BBQ Championship title thanks to a generous grant from Smithfield Foods!
Attendees can sink their teeth into some of the best BBQ from vendors throughout the region or participate in some taste testing from competitors. For grownups, the Beer Garden will be the perfect pairing to a juicy bite of brisket.
Bring your ATV and enjoy the Hatfield-McCoy Trail or sit back in your favorite lawn chair and enjoy the mountain air, laced with the delicious smell of a hot smoker and the music of Appalachia’s favorite musicians.
The WV Coalfields Cookoff offers more than just great food and good music. Regional artisans will also sell handmade crafts and local businesses will sell ATV accessories!

PRO & BACKYARD TEAMS
BBQ Teams
In addition to accumulating points for KCBS end of year awards, participating KCBS BBQ Teams compete to win cash prizes from the local organizer, the City of Welch. The highest number of points accumulated in the KCBS contest are calculated and a Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, and first through fifth place in each meat type will receive awards and cash prizes. The winner of this contest will be invited to go to the American Royal and will be entered in the Jack Daniels contest lotto. Teams will be judged by KCBS certified judges in the following categories, brisket, ribs, pork, and chicken.
Calling all KCBS Certified Barbecue Judges! WV Coalfields Cookoff has opened applications to join its Judging Team for the 2023 BBQ KCBS Pro Pitmasters. Contest dates is June 9-10 in Welch, WV. Judging will be held Saturday, June 10th, 2023. WV Coalfields Cookoff only accepts judges that have taken a KCBS certification course and are KCBS members in good standing. We provide our teams with 100% certified judges. More certified BBQ judging classes will be held in the future. Certified judges can apply here.

We are seeking food vendor applications for the event. Use of an approx. 30' X 30' space to accommodate your food trailer. We hope you'll serve BBQ as part of your menu, but all types of food vendors will be welcomed. The event will be limited to four food vendors. Food vendors are selected by the City of Welch and will be selected by April 1st.
Non Food Vendors are welcomed also! Cost is $25 per table or $100 for a 20x30 (suitable to park a trailer). Crafters, ATV accessories dealers, BBQ accessories dealers and more are a great fit for our event!

ATV's, Side-by-Sides, and Quads are welcomed in the City of Welch, WV. With a connector trail to the Hatfield McCoy trail near the festival grounds. We invite you to attend and participate in our ATV contests (BIG BOSS and UGLIEST ATV - Just click on the link below to complete the form.

VOUNTEERS
We want you! Ask a friend to join you for a day of helping at the City of Welch Coalfields Cookoff Festival. Some possible assignments include gate admission, attendee assistance, helping vendors set up and parking coordination. Volunteers helping all day receive free admission, lunch, and a t-shirt!
Volunteers must be 14 years or older. Volunteers wanting to take part in the City of Welch Coalfields Cookoff Festival should sign up using the volunteer form.
We are seeking food vendors for the event. Use of an approx. 10' X 30' space (unless otherwise authorized) with an additional prep area as described above. We hope you'll serve BBQ as part of your menu, but all types of food vendors will be welcomed. The event will be limited to four food vendors.
Use of 20-amp electric are available on . A water station is available onsite, and ice is available for purchase. Fill out the vendor form here
